MIAMI (WFLA) — This weekend, X-Finity and NASCAR Cup Series drivers head to South Florida after crossing the country from Las Vegas to Homestead. For many drivers the Homestead/Miami track is a favorite.
"I just like the diversity that the track has, you can run right up against the wall. That is what that track is famous for, but you can also run at the bottom, right on the white line and everywhere in the middle," said Chris Bell, who has won three races for his Joe Gibbs Racing team this season.
Bell's teammate at Gibbs, Denny Hamlin, also likes the track.
"It's just a track that I took a liking to, really early in my career," Hamlin said.
For Hamlin, Homestead provides many unique challenges that he enjoys.
"It's got a lot of characteristics that make it difficult, and makes it challenging and I always feel like, the more challenging the racetrack, the more I can let my talent shine," Hamlin said.
X-Finity drivers will have a chance to shine first at their race on Saturday.
Driver Matt DiBenedetto with Viking Motorsports said it's the cars that make his series exciting.
"Driving the X-Finity cars now, it reminds me of 2017, 2018 in the Cup Series," DiBenedetto said. "We had all of the horsepower. We had small spoilers, low downforce, sliding all over the place."
He also like the challenge of Homestead presents, and he thinks the fans like the excitement of X-Finity racing.
"Personally, I think everyone would agree, if they are being honest, these cars are the most fun to race," DiBenedetto said.
