‘I'm greedy': Xfinity driver Daniel Dye wants more than top 10s

(NEXSTAR) – Daytona native, Daniel Dye, has his eyes on the prize. As part of this year’s Xfinity Series rookie class, the 21-year-old says he’s focused on winning.

“I’m greedy. In the sport of racing, you always have to be a little bit greedy. So, just gotta be able to capitalize on that,” Dye said. “I’d love to win. I’ve still yet to get a top three National Series win so to be able to get that and lock ourselves in the playoffs.”

After 10 Xfinity starts a year ago, Dye now drives the No.10 Chevrolet full-time for Kaulig Racing.

“The main thing we were talking about last year doing those 10 races, they’re kind of sporadic right. We did about one a month, was racing the Truck Series too, so now it’s more simple. We’re in the same car every weekend. Same teammates every weekend, same routine,” Dye said.

Dye has bounced back since his first Daytona experience ended in a crash. Since then, he’s finished 7th in Atlanta and 17th in COTA. He described his start as “rocky” but said he’s focused on improved progress week by week.

“I mean just as many single digit finishes as you can. As many top 10s, make the playoffs, stage points are huge,” he said.

He now shifts his focus to Phoenix; a place he has raced several times.

“It’s a fun racetrack for me, something I’m excited to do. I love the West Coast,” he said.
